At Pathways to Housing we believe that housing is a basic right for all people. We do not require

people to prove they are ready or worthy for housing, nor do we require people to participate

in treatment or attain sobriety as a precondition for housing. Pathways moves people

directly into apartments and once they are housed, we provide the support and treatment services

needed to begin the process of recovery and integration into the community. We serve some of the most vulnerable people in our city, those who are homeless, have psychiatric disabilities, and are often challenged by addictions. And yet, having housing gives a chance for talent to emerge irregardless of health.

Our support and services include the Art and Writing workshop run by artist, writer and film maker Rachael Romero. Pathways also offers a Photography Workshop led by a photographer.

ART PATHWAYS Rachael Romero's Workshop at Pathways to Housing Inc

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

  Ralph Waldo Emerson

Art made from inner necessity helps us transform ourselves.

In plumbing our own depths we learn what we can do. We want to cross over the bounderies between insider and outsider, both in art and in society.

Monique Fagan Smith

People coming into an apartment after having lived a long time on the street often find them selves sitting home alone isolated and disconnected from the community.

The Art and Writing Workshop calls forth sublimated artistic expression and offers the opportunity to transform from the inside out.

Because I've saved my students' work and traced their lives year-after-year I believe I can show how the transformationtaking place in a persons art portfolio mirrors their recovery of themselves.
